I’m excited to be a part of the GoBo! Bake Sale this year. Many of you are probably thinking, what is the GoBo! Bake Sale. It is a Bake Sale to benefit the GoBo Foundation. The bake sale was inspired by a quote from Bo –
“Love each other, help each other, have your neighbor’s back. If you see someone in need — even a stranger — reach out and help. This world can be a better place if we care and help each other.”
~ Bo Johnson
The Go Bo! Foundation has a three-tiered approach of assistance. They:
- Fund childhood cancer and related blood disorder research at the MACC Fund (Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer, Inc.).
- Support state-of-the-art treatment in a child friendly environment at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin (Dr. David Margolis was Bo’s doctor and he is a huge advocate and innovator in the field of childhood cancer).
- “Pay it forward” to families of children diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition. Since most of the family’s energy is spent on their child, families often experience a financial crisis during this time. The Go Bo! Foundation’s goal is to assist in alleviating some of the financial worries by providing direct financial assistant (mortgage, rent, utilities, etc.). The assistance is not to be used for medical expenses, but rather to assist with the day-to-day bills.
The bake sale is organized by the ever so talented Jill over at Jill FCS. She does great work and she’s a WI girl! I find it truly amazing to see so many people across the country and world participate and we’re all connected by our love of making cookies. So far this year contributors from 42 states and 16 countries have made the commitment.
I’ve committed to doing 4 dozen. The theme is fall/halloween, so I’m thinking of scarecrows, sunflowers, leaves and acorns. We’ll see what time allows for but I already have a ton of ideas running through my head. I’ll be sure to post pictures and more info on what I come up with by the end of the month as the cookies need to be shipped and received by 10/6.
PS – Any readers in the Door County area should definitely check this event out, I think it would be awesome to see all the cookies on display.
